   Medical Office Administrators keep healthcare offices running efficiently. They perform highly specialized work requiring knowledge of medical terminology and procedures. Duties vary from office to office, and Medical Office Administrators may assist physicians and medical scientists with reports, record simple medical histories, arrange for patients to be hospitalized, and order supplies. They must also be familiar with insurance rules, billing practices, and hospital or laboratory procedures.


Program Objectives

Upon completion, the graduate will possess working knowledge in:

Basic medical terminology, anatomy, human diseases, pharmacology

Basic medical coding and billing skills

Medical documentation

Assigning and sequencing diagnostic and procedural codes using universally recognized coding systems

Basic medical office procedures and clinical medical assisting skills.


Front office procedures such as:

Handling patient accounts and records, word processing, and scheduling of patients.


Back office procedures such as:

Taking patient histories and vital signs

Preparing patients for procedures

Assisting the physician with examinations and treatments

Performing selected diagnostic tests as directed by the physician

Basic medical laboratory and X-ray procedures
