Self-Employment

To be self-employed simply means that you are working for yourself. Technically, if you own a small business and receiving an actual paycheck from that business, you are not self-employed, but employed by that business, however, most people consider many owners of very small businesses to be self-employed. With the advent of today’s computers and communications systems, including the Internet, more and more people are working at home and are self-employed. This can include people running internet businesses, import-export businesses, wholesale distribution businesses, etc. Many people who are skilled in a trade are self-employed including hair stylists, massage therapists, skin care consultants, electricians, plumbers, etc.
