Partnerships are tricky business. There are so many different types of partnerships… business/ work life, personal life, referral partners and more. We’ve all heard the horror stories of how these seemingly perfect unions somehow over time collapse and consume everyone and everything in its wake. Begs the question of why people undertake such partnerships to begin with, but let’s leave that one to the philosophers and some other article. Instead, allow me a short trip down memory lane and to share a revelation in recent years.

Have you seen the sequel to “When Harry Met Sally”, 2002’s “When Paul Met Radha” was an instant classic.  Within a year of meeting each other, we were wed and 20 years later all I can admit to publicly is that I had no clue what I was in for…lol. Radha, my wife and life partner, was and remains the rock-solid foundation on which our family is built. Her stable career and cautious, yet willing, engagement in the necessary financial gymnastics in those early years of marriage allowed me to dive full-time into the entrepreneurial world. While there is no doubt that my business partners over the years played pivotal roles in some ways, the underpinning of our family’s successes and our business's success was and is Radha.

Post-COVID, although I had heard many cautionary tales, we did the seemingly unthinkable and decided to work together in business as well. Within the first six months of that arrangement, we both realized that we should have done this so much sooner. As in my personal life, now in my professional life, our complimentary (and very different) personalities were meshing well and leading to unparalleled progress. Our CPR family, our employees and our clients are now feeling the love, right along with us. It’s a decision that frankly should have been made years earlier.

I say this to anyone out there who has heard the same rubbish about not working with your spouse… and is buying into that… you’d better work on your marriage. To those that have a strong marriage and are considering taking the business partnership plunge with your spouse… consider that all the work it takes to make a marriage work is way harder than the simplicity of a business partnership with its professional limits. My advice… why wait, try it out and be ready to be amazed!
