You would have thought by now everything that needed to be invented/built on the web already exists. It turns out that one brilliant entrepreneur identified a gap/need for an  online platform solely dedicated to roofing professionals.  Once we met her and she met us, as they say…the rest is history. 

After being in the roofing industry for decades, Rainy Ungemach and her team discovered that nearly every roofer is left with excess materials after completing jobs. This is simply business-as-usual and best practice since no one wants to run short on a job or have a project held up because of back orders. Generally, after the job is finished, these excess materials get stored with the idea that they may be useful on another project. Inevitably, they tend to get thrown away, leaving the roofing contractor feeling a sense of wastefulness/loss while also contributing to our nation’s ongoing landfill issues. 

That being said, sometimes, there are situations where roofers might run short on materials and need them quickly. In this case, being able to connect to other roofers and obtain materials would be ideal, but until now it did not exist. A platform that addresses both sides of the coin was required. The ability to list excess materials and make them accessible for purchase seamlessly and, in most cases, at discounted pricing was sorely lacking. Also, most big-box stores do not speak roofer jargon or list items with roofer terminology.  Gaining access directly to other professionals in the roofing business and being able to communicate and purchase effectively was simply a dream.  This glaring need led to Rainy’s conceptualization of Roofingxchange.com.

The next step was to find the right technology partner to develop her web application. That was easier said than done, as Rainy had tremendous difficulty in finding a firm that could first understand and second commit to the project. Additionally, there were timeline and budgetary parameters that seemed to be potential deal breakers.  After much searching, Rainy found internationally acclaimed cloud software firm Consult PR (CPR).

After contacting many firms that did not resonate with her, Rainy reached out to our very own Executive Vice-President, Chuck Konga. His 20+ years of experience leading teams in developing custom web applications allowed for instant rapport and understanding of her project. After the initial discussion, Rainy sent a detailed explanation of her site requirements. After a thorough analysis, the team came up with a specifications document that outlined the details needed for a development team to construct Rainy’s web application concept. The specifications document included objectives, deliverables, timelines, costs and more - exactly what the doctor ordered for this visionary entrepreneur!

Rainy manifested her dream of creating a one-stop shop for roofing professionals that makes the connection possible and the buying/selling of the excess products smooth.
